School uniforms yes or no?

Some schools have as a rule that the children wear a uniform and others do not. This makes the fact of wearing uniforms or not one of the measures that generates debate between parents and that is why I want to talk about it today.

One of the advantages of the uniform, according to the defenders of its use, is that it is an equalizer. All children dress the same and there is no possible distinction or therefore discrimination.

It is also a way to eliminate headaches when choosing clothes and a way not to spoil children's clothes.

Detractors, or those of us who believe that children should not wear a uniform, argue against it, curiously, the same as defenders, which is an equalizer.

In search of freedom

The humans we are born to be free, to decide how to live and to be, therefore, unique people.

However, with the education we receive, we all seem too much, since we move in a narrow range of action, out of which we would be considered rare and therefore excluded.

The funny thing is that innovative people, those who want to change the society in which we live (and I think you will all agree with me that there would be nothing wrong with a change) are those that bring fresh sap, new ideas, that are nonconformist and They reject the current system.

The school tries to homogenize

The school is already, in itself, a tremendous equalizing agent where all children are tried to behave the same and work in a similar way. If we add that everyone should dress the same, little we are letting the children decide and less can think that they are different from the rest and, in fact, unique.

Differences must be treated differently

With regard to the social differences that the uniform supposedly avoids, saying that leaving school re-designates children. Some children come looking for them with the 4 × 4 and others with the Marbella.

That is why the economic differences of families should be limited by doing educational work such that children respect themselves above the economic situation or of the clothing brand that one sees (basically because the one who is rich today can be poor tomorrow and ultimately because people should not be measured by what they have).

This means that at home we should try to laugh less at others (and criticize less too) and accept a little more diversity of opinion and social, that children are authentic sponges who think that what they see at home is normal and The example to follow.

At school, these issues should also be worked on, cutting off the root (dedicating to talk about it for as long as it takes) any mockery or disrespect for other classmates.

The excuse of “I can't stop class to talk about these issues because the subject is behind me” is no use ”because the children go to school precisely to learn to be people. Letting go of the opportunities that day-to-day offers to bridge differences between children can be a way of accepting them to happen.

Summarizing

I am aware that the uniform is simply clothes, and that it is not one of the most important details of what can happen in a school. A more personalized education, where each student can decide what to study and what to learn, where the concerns and potentials of each child to be educated based on their preferences are observed would make the world enrich itself with disparate people, but at the same time complementary (if they are taught to respect).

Continue to fight so that everyone is equal (and with the uniform an important step is taken, since in the eyes of a child none is different), it is to keep on forgetting that we deserve to live free and with the ability to decide what to do with our lives.
