Technology in Action: proposals to improve Technological Education

'If technology stops, everything stops', this is the phrase that heads a campaign driven by the reduction of Technological Education provided by the LOMCE. This is one of the curricular changes that will affect ESO and Baccalaureate students (due to the disappearance of the subject as core or specific in the first case, and mandatory in the second).

A group of professors, professors, working groups and associations of the teaching staff of Technology, want us to listen to them, and also to listen to the political leaders. They have proposed to explain to society what they are its proposals for improvement for the teaching of Technology. For this they have started a crowfunding campaign in 'Lánzame' with the purpose of making a short film that explains what is and what is the Technological Education in Spain. It is a very important mission since we do not all know 'what is the use of studying Technology?', Or 'what projects do students of this subject do'.

Presence of Technological education at ESO
A country has to plan where it wants to be. To grow or have natural resources, or services and cheap labor or is a country that bases its growth on knowledge and innovation. Do we want to be a country of cheap labor and services? Do we want to be a leading country? Whatever it is you have to create it from the base

This phrase is from one of the professors participating in the Technology in Action project, called Eduardo Vendrell (Director of ETS Computer Engineering - Polytechnic University of Valencia). Here we will find other interventions, such as the one that ensures that Technological Education enhances teamwork.

From the web, they are stated as if they were a list of purposes, the motivations that move all those who want more Technology presence in the classroom: dialogue, talent, withdrawal from the LOMCE, commitment to Public Education, creativity, etc..

Presence of Technological education in the Baccalaureate

The recently approved educational law is described as retrograde and unfair, because eliminates essential subjects such as Technology and equates knowledge with beliefs. "The LOMCE does not take advantage of the investments made in teacher training, teaching experience, facilities and material resources."

The countries that obtain the best academic results in the PISA report are firmly committed to technological training. And we, what future do we want?

Do you want to know more about the campaign? From the State Platform of Associations of Teachers of Technology, they tell us that they already have all these supports.
