In the eyes of a child, we are all the same (or different)

On the occasion of International Disability Day, the French Association Noémi has created a beautiful video that shows us the way children see, or rather, do not see disability. Why In the eyes of a child, we are all the same (or different).

The group dedicated to the integration of people with disabilities has done an experiment with a group of young children and their parents. Do not miss it because it gives a lot to think about us and how we want to educate our children.

The children were separated from their parents by a wall. Both were shown images of people they should imitate. The last one, a girl with a disability, whom the children, like the rest, also imitated, while the parents cut themselves off and stopped.

It is our responsibility as parents to educate our children in the understanding of disability. That people with disabilities get to live in equality depends on others. If, since they are children, we teach them not to lose that way of seeing them as people so equal (or so different) to others, we will be able to take a great step.

Acceptance and integration These are values that we must instill since they are little. The way children see people with disabilities will change the way they see them in a whole society, because prejudices are in the eyes of those who look. Every time I think we have more things to learn from the little ones.
