Celifast allows to detect celiac disease in ten minutes from a drop of blood

So far, the only way to diagnose celiac disease is through a blood test and at least one intestinal biopsy to confirm the disease characterized by permanent gluten intolerance present in different cereals.

For children and their parents it is a very unpleasant drink, since they are invasive tests, so it is great news to know that it can soon be done through Celifast, a test that allows you to detect celiac disease in ten minutes from a drop of sangrand.

Celifast has been created by researchers from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and has a success rate in initial tests in the laboratory of 100% from the analysis of a biomarker of blood.

Its operation is very similar to that of a glucometer, that device with a small needle that diabetics use to measure blood glucose concentration, but in addition to diagnosing the disease, Celifast also allows you to monitor its evolution and analyze the degree of patient celiac disease periodically.

Is especially a breakthrough for the diagnosis of celiac disease in young children, since its great advantage is that it offers results quickly and less invasively than current gluten intolerance tests.

Currently, the project is in the clinical validation phase and the way to commercialize the test is being sought, which we hope to see soon in the medical consultations.
