Children and pets

Many consider that having a pet at home is good for children, who create a very special emotional relationship, which helps to develop the emotional part of the child and the sense of responsibility.

All that seems to me to be true, but what is also true is that you have to have a special caution when bringing an animal home, which will definitely be one of the family and will live with our children.

According to Doctor Mateu of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics and coordinator of the safety and accident prevention commission "it is necessary to make children aware that animals are living beings with their own personality, different from stuffed animals." It should also be borne in mind that the majority of dog bites occur in children under five years of age by known animals of the family or a relative, and that in 80% of cases accidents occur during the game. The most frequent bite sites are usually head, neck and face.

The feeding and hygiene of the animal must also be strict and carefully controlled to avoid contagion such as parasitosis and infections, which could occur due to the close contact between child and pet.

Newborn babies are better off staying away from pets, not only because of a possible assault but also because of an accident, such as the overturning of the crib. Some studies advise against certain races such as the Bull Terrier, Pit Bull, San Bernardo and Dobermann.
