III Intergovernmental Conference on children's rights in Europe and Central Asia

Every day new really worrisome facts about childhood in the world are known, through the network, television or newspapers we know how child labor increases, violence against children, children who participate in wars, children who exercise prostitution, etc. In addition the problem of hunger and health, lack of schooling, and we could continue.

There are too many problems that have to face millions of children, therefore, on June 19 and 20, the III Intergovernmental Conference on children's rights in Europe and Central Asia organized by the Spanish government in collaboration with UNICEF in the city of Palencia.

Representatives from 38 countries will study the problems we have mentioned and what measures should be taken a priori to try to improve and remedy the situation. Although there are many experts who say that some situations have been improved, the news shows that such improvement is minimal. About 15 years ago, European countries pledged in the celebration of the Convention on the Rights of the Child to apply a series of measures to alleviate all those situations that are experienced today, but everything has been in a mere meeting, not the measures have been applied. Certainly something is not going well, that measures are applied and are not made effective is incomprehensible, becoming aware of the large number of problems that children suffer in the world is mandatory, but even more is to do something about it.

We hope that the Intergovernmental Conference on children's rights in Europe and Central Asia will realize new plans and become effective, fighting for children's rights, pursuing injustices, condemning the breach of agreements, etc.

Children are the future and we must ensure that they have it.
