Breast milk to prevent withdrawal syndrome

Babies born to mothers addicted to drug use develop the so-called withdrawal syndrome.

Therefore, doctors strive to try to reduce the effects of drugs on newborn babies. In short, babies, what is their fault of the mother's disease?

And they have discovered a palliative. According to a study by the Australian University of New South Wales, Breastfeeding can relieve the symptoms of withdrawal syndrome in the newborn.

A group of researchers has analyzed the pregnancies of 190 drug-dependent women to assess how drug dependence affects the newborn. They showed that babies who received breast milk experienced fewer withdrawal symptoms than those who received prepared formula.

On the one hand, the symptoms were attenuated and on the other, babies fed with breast milk required fewer doses of the drugs. Thus, they concluded that milk decreases the intensity of the syndrome and helps improve the quality of life of the newborn.

The only case in which doctors do not advise that the woman breastfeed her baby is just after taking any drug by passing the active substance of the drug to the baby could even cause death.
