"You are": A poem for Father's Day (2012)

Today is already day 16 and that means that there are only three days left before the Father's day. Man does not live on gifts alone and the gifts bought are not the only way to thank a dad. Many parents, in fact, settle for a drawing of our children or some crafts.

Whether you choose to buy something or if you prefer to do it yourself with your children, it is always a nice detail to accompany the gift of a postcard or writing.

I know that there are many poems on the Internet for Father's Day, but as always I try to personalize a bit and as I always liked to write something for these days, I wanted to contribute, one more year, a poem for Father's Day, based a little on me as a father and on me as a son and thinking about the wonderful parents that every child would want to have (or that every child has, namely).

I do not know if I have managed to capture what I wanted, but the essence is basically saying “I love you” and thanking, something that we all love to hear but how hard it is to say. The poem It is titled "You".

You are

You're big, too big for me, I'm so small
you are a mine of experience, the one that knows thousands of games,
You're the one who never takes me when he runs after me
although I know that if you wanted, you would soon find me.

You're the one who always hugs me, you, my good giant,
that you carry on your shoulders, almost reaching the sky,
you are the one who always bends down, the one who teaches me that children
They have everything ahead, one life, one way.

You teach me, you talk to me and you always make me laugh,
You accompany me, you caress me, you teach me to be happy.
If you leave, I wait for you at the door you arrive,
Mom talks to me, I don't believe her, I know you're coming soon.

When you arrive I hide, and suddenly appear,
you get scared, then laugh and teach me to fly,
So many laughs and your arms when I cry
They are the craved balm you give me because you want to.

It's you, dad, my friend and my teacher,
my example, my dream partner,
my handkerchief if I suffer, my voice if I shut up,
My light if I turn off and my support if I fall.

It's you, dad, my guide if I get lost,
my solution if I despair
and my mattress if I faint.
It's you, dad. Only you, dad.

Happy Father's Day.
