Children who harm animals

Most children feel tenderness and love for animals and would never harm them. But today I would like to invite you to reflect on your experiences and opinions about children who hurt animals, or, more serious, in my opinion, those who enjoy hurting them as if it were a game, unable to empathize with the suffering.

And recently, a friend told me that, in a park, some children dedicated themselves to take out the tents from the pond and burst them by trampling them.

But even more horrible is that the parents of the children were present and watched impassably the enjoyment of their children, without explaining anything, without seeing anything especially worrying in their behavior. I don't know if the tents were alive or dead, but, anyway, the image seemed shocking to me. These were apparently normal children and parents, but how to consider this image normal?

It has made me remember situations in my childhood that I remember with horror. Children tearing wings off flies to see how they moved. Others who drowned mice or worse stoned street cats to hurt or kill them.

Or, more recently, my son's pain coming home crying because the children in the park had killed ants or stomping grasshoppers. And they laughed when he did it and more when he saw that he suffered for helpless bugs. Do I really have to wait for my son to want to play with them?

All this, I must confess, I find it incomprehensible. I can understand the curiosity of children, even their inability to assimilate that living beings suffer if nobody explains it. How would you act if you saw your children doing something similar?

And it seems to me greatly worrying that they exist children that harm animals and that they even have fun watching them suffer without anyone educating or transmitting them that this is not correct. What do you think?
