Do we sometimes forget how to do it? Practical guide to good treatment of the child

Attention, affection and recognition are basic for any child, and their parents are the most important figures of their early years. This is why something breaks when a child is mistreated and that is why it is so important convey to children the love and good treatment to build a society without violence that is perpetuated between generations.

Given the current situation in which child abuse continues to exist, and with the intention of promoting good treatment of children, the Spanish Society of Outpatient Pediatrics and Primary Care (SEPEAP), together with the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP) and other associations have developed the Practical Guide to Good Child Treatment, addressed to all those people involved in the treatment and protection of minors.

The Madrid Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse (APIMM) also participates in this publication; the Prandi Foundation for Outpatient Pediatrics; the Society of Pediatrics of Madrid and Castilla La Mancha, and the Spanish Society of Social Pediatrics (SEPS).

This is a guide that addresses good treatment from the family, school, health, recreational, social, social and public services. It also reveals what are the warning signs of child abuse, and what is the good treatment for children with special difficulties.

Recall that in Spain it is estimated that between five and 15 children in 1,000 suffer abuse, although only between 10% and 20% of total cases are detected, according to data from the Spanish Society of Pediatric Emergencies.

That is why it is so important to make cases of abuse visible and at the same time spread the importance of treating children well, as this "Practical guide to good treatment of children". And because we must not forget how to do it, I leave you with a fragment of the introduction to this essential work that can be downloaded or read online:

Good Treatment of the child begins at the place of birth, usually hospital, since the child develops in different areas or spaces, such as family, at school, in hospitals, in recreation areas, in shelters, but mainly in the family environment. But today's society has introduced a substantial change of model, since educators, caregivers and mainly grandparents are being protagonists in the education and psychosocial development of the child, and must be sensitized in the "good treatment", assuming and practicing the culture of "Good Treatment to the child". The "Good Treatment of the child" is to have the joy and availability of time and space to share with the children, be aware of them, watching them grow and develop. The child and adolescent who is given a "good treatment" is happy, feels that he is heard and recognized, faithfully expresses his emotions, communicates and places his trust in the people around him. The "Good Treatment of the child" and good educational practices in the family are still the fundamental bases for the socialization and formation of the personality of each child.
