Laura Worsley always wanted to be a mother but life has not made it easy for her, and due to several problems she has had to go through the hard experience of living 13 abortions, two of them occurred in weeks 17 and 20 of gestation.

However, this British woman and her partner made the decision not to give up, and after many years of suffering and various medical treatments, they have managed to fulfill their dream and are now parents of a girl.

Laura became pregnant for the first time in 2008 but the joy lasted a short time, because a few weeks later she suffered a miscarriage. To this first gestational loss three more happened in the next two years, so the doctors decided to investigate what was happening.

His case was taken by a team of researchers from the Biomedical Research Unit of the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW), and there they discovered that Laura suffered from the antiphospholipid syndrome, also known as "thick blood syndrome". This condition causes the immune system to generate antibodies that make the blood more prone to clotting, causing preeclampsia, premature delivery, abortions and other very serious health complications for the mother.

Doctors analyzed the placenta of one of these pregnancies and found a second problem: Chronic histiocytic intervillositis, a rare disease and of possible immunological origin, which causes the mother's body rejects pregnancy.

The doctors decided to give him a steroid-based treatment to strengthen the lining of his womb, and next to the anticoagulant medication Laura conceived again for the 14th time ... And this time, the pregnancy did get ahead!

Ivy, her rainbow baby, was born in September last year by emergency caesarean section and at 30 weeks gestation. It weighed a little more than half a kilo, but his overwhelming force helped him get ahead, and after 11 weeks in neonatal care he was discharged.

Now, Ivy is nine months old and his mother confesses that, after all that he has lived, he still does not believe he has a daughter. He owes everything to the medical team that treated her and helped her face the obstacles that appeared, and that's why she wanted to share her story of struggle and overcoming.

"Throughout my story I want to give others the hope and strength to continue fighting, even when things seem impossible. For many years I have lived with the only hope of becoming a mother someday. I have lost many years of my life, and the idea of ​​not being able to have a baby tormented me. There came a time when I no longer knew if it was worth it to keep trying, but we did (...)
