Pilar San Miguel has informed us of the celebration of I Congress of Pedagogy and Social Applications of Chess that will take place between the June 25 and 29, 2013 in Buitrago (Madrid) and in which very important and relevant names from the world of chess and education such as Leontxo García, Susan Polgar, José Antonio Marina, Juan Blanco, Juan Antonio Montero, Joaquin Fernández Amigó, Pep Suárez, Adriana Salazar will participate , Ramón Aciego, Joaquin Pérez de Arriaga, etc.
The motto of this congress is Chess Helps You Think (Chess helps you think) and on it has built a Very attractive program with presentations and activities aligned with the objective of the European Union of introducing chess in every school in the world. The conferences will present the relationship between chess and intelligence, the development of strategic learning, how frequent chess practice develops cognitive and socio-affective intelligence, etc. We also remember that this sport has a low economic impact, it is universal, it can be practiced online and children from two or three years can start working with chess.
Although everything seems to be advantages in the application of chess in teaching, Leontxo García, promoter of the congress and very aware of the dissemination of chess, diagnose two problems that need to be resolved:
- The teacher shortage with pedagogical training, and urgent need to train them
- He excess of different teaching methods and the style of teachers who put more focus on creating players instead of teaching how to think or use it as a transversal method for other learning
So to solve these needs, the Gredos-San Diego schools and the National University of Distance Education (UNED), promote this I International Congress of Chess and Pedagogy, which will be held June 25-29 in Buitrago del Lozoya (50 minutes from Madrid).
Thanks to the fact that Spain is the leading country in social applications of chess, the list of speakers and workshop directors who will transmit their wisdom is world-class, since, in addition, it is enriched with three eminences from America.
