Benjamin Lacombe's exhibition at the ABC Museum

He ABC Museum presents, for the first time in Spain, an exhibition of original drawings by the prestigious French illustrator Benjamin Lacombe. The exhibition can be seen until January 26, 2014 and it is on the ground floor of the Museum. There are 30 original illustrations plus a couple of figures that reproduce two of his works.

In the ABC Museum there were several children with their families looking at the drawings in amazement and taking photographs with the mobiles in almost all. And is that Lacombe impacts with his illustrations in which the emotion and beauty. His drawings arouse the imagination and the faces of the characters are very expressive, perfectly transmitting their mood and empathizing quickly with them.

In Benjamin Lacombe There are multiple influences. Thus, there are references in his drawings to the painting from the Italian Quattrocento, to the Flemish painters and the Pre-Raphaelites. Of the movie theater uses images of Tim Burton, Hitchcock and Fritz Lang. Of the Photography use the hypnotic work of Diane Arbus. And everyone gets inspiration to do their own work of great impact although some do not think they are highly recommended for children. And it is that his characters and the spaces in which he makes them live, although imaginary, are not idyllic nor are they inhabited by blue princes and princesses who wait. For example, the images of the Macabre Tales of Edgar Allan Poe or the story of Notre Dame de Paris.

Benjamin Lacombe He was born in Paris in 1982 and I study at the National School of Decorative Arts. He has worked in advertising and animation and drew his first comic at nineteen. In Spain he works with the publishing house Edelvives. I regretted that there was no space in the exhibition space to buy works by the artist. With the coup that was there, it is likely that many of us could have dared to take us some work.

Lacombe use techniques varied as gouache, pencil, watercolor and oil painting. The result is precious, colorful, melancholic creations and full of details. In the exhibition, totally recommended to visit as a family, you can find the Macabre Tales, Swinging Christmas, Our Lady of Paris, Ondina, The Herbarium of the Fairies, Nightingale, Snow White, Butterfly Lovers and Madame Butterfly.
