World Autism Awareness Day: prevents them from being sentenced

Today, April 2 is celebrated on World Autism Awareness Day, but this time we will not focus on the characteristics of the disorder, but precisely on showing what a child with autism can suffer to be sentenced by his surroundings as a "different" child.

This year there has been a very strong campaign entitled "Sentenced", which you can see above, created to make visible the situation of 50,000 minors and 450,000 adults who in Spain suffer social, labor and educational barriers imposed by their condition.

Ignorance of the disorder often causes people to be stigmatized with autism, making it a "life sentence," which obviously also affects the family.

Autism Spectrum Syndrome is currently the most prevalent child disability, more than Down syndrome, childhood cancer and diabetes together. By affecting the way in which they communicate and interact and show special behaviors, the environment tends to gradually isolate children and people with autism turning them into "invisible" beings.

It is very important that as parents we educate our children in the integration of people with autism or with any other type of disability if we want things to start changing.
