"It's hard to have a brother with autism," although Mattias enjoys every minute he is with Christian

When we celebrated World Autism Awareness Day last April 2, I found a emotional video starring an 8 year old boy named Mattias.

Mattias has a brother with autism two years older, his name is Christian; and their relationship is so special that a video that lasts just over a minute is capable of transmitting it to us. It is true that I had never stopped to think 'what happened to the siblings of autistic children', although it is to be assumed that despite the love and the need to protect them, the relationship will not be exempt from certain complications.

Searching the Internet, I found a text by Barbara Cain (in Ideas Time), which highlights that The impact of autism on siblings is not always negative. And this is because they assume responsibilities early, and in a sense they mature early.

The flip side of the coin is - perhaps - that sometimes they would like more attention from their parents, or suffer from observing social misunderstanding.

The video that heads the post is called "Autism Stories: Siblings", in it Mattias explains that it is hard to have a brother with autism, although they also have a lot of fun together. He knows that what he feels for Christian will never change, but that he would like his lives to be a little easier one day.

In a brief tour of this fraternal relationship, through drawings and a child who explains himself very well, we know how Christian's words stay inside as if they were imprisoned; Y how does Mattias affect To think that a child who a few hours ago was happy, wakes up crying disconsolate, and confused with himself and his surroundings.
