'Protect yourself' has been presented: a help and complaint tool for children

Today a tool has been presented that has been designed to protect children. This is an application that is available for free on Google Play and the Apple Store. The goal is to help younger people to use the Internet more safely and responsibly, while it can help them solve problems related to bullying on the Internet.

It is called "Protect", and having it installed on the smartphone, minors can contact lawyers, psychologists and security experts of Protégeles, who can advise them. Queries will be answered in no more than 24 hours, although always depending on the seriousness of the situation presented.

The team of specialists will not only answer questions about cyberbullying, but also problems with privacy, identity theft, sexual harassment, or other situations
They have been boys and girls from 12 to 15 years old, who have announced the operation of 'protect yourself', content application 'antiacous', which Protégeles has developed in collaboration with Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange and Yoigo.

I have heard them tell on television that young people also want to be participants, since although fighting cyber bullying is everyone's job, they too They have a responsibility to know how to ask for help, and avoid causing conflicts.

It is worrying to know that cases of bullying on the Internet (and other problems such as sexting or grooming), increase, and that they do so through devices with mobile connectivity. In fact I have been checking for a few months how children as young as 10 or 11 years old suffer from these situations.

Taking advantage of the Safe Internet Day, Protégeles presented the study "Minors and Mobile Connectivity in Spain: Tablets and Smartphones", according to which 5.4 percent of children aged 11 to 14 have been victims of some type of harassment via mobile. On the other hand, 9 percent of children in these ages have received images of sexual content, and only 30 percent say they turn it off when they go to sleep.

How it will help Protect yourself

This application will allow:

  • Report anonymously illegal or inappropriate contents found on the Internet.

  • Ask for help in situations of harassment on the Internet (cyberbullying), sexual harassment of minors (grooming), cases of identity theft and other problems related to the Internet and new technologies.

  • Evaluate your level of knowledge about security and responsible use of the Internet and Information and Communication Technologies.

I really like the initiative and I think it can help to act without complexes on a topic as delicate as cyberbullying.
