The Art of Saving a Life, Bill Gates' campaign for vaccines

The creator of Microsoft, Bill Gates, is clear: “Internet will not save the world, the vaccine against malaria is more important”. And that is the goal of the online campaign for "The art of saving a life" vaccines.

This is the new project of the Melinda & Bill Gates Foundation that aims to raise awareness in society about the importance of vaccines in the eradication of infectious diseases. And it does so by going to a vehicle of fabulous expression, which captivates the receiver: through art.

The campaign was launched in early January, before alarms were raised in the United States for the measles outbreak with more than a hundred cases and the debate about whether or not to vaccinate children reopened.

I am sure that the debate will continue and measles outbreaks, for now, too. Today we have known that an 18-month-old girl has died in Germany because of measles. But we can't forget the subject and this artistic call that reminds us that vaccines save lives she is fabulous.

In "The art of saving a life" more than 30 renowned artists from around the world express their work, through music, cinema, photography, sculpture ... On their website we can see the recreation of historical scenes of some of the main scientific milestones of vaccination, or the important characters in the progress of vaccines (as in this snapshot of Annie Leibovitz).

Polio, smallpox, HIV, malaria, Ebola, children in a rehabilitation and research center in India, syringes "child friendly", abstract pictures that are actually the microscopic image of cells infected with smallpox ... Most artists have collaborated selflessly and others were paid some small expenses for the realization of their work.

These works for sale are generating millions of dollars that go to the research and vaccination of 300 million children in the world, and therefore will save not only one life but many.

Can art arrive where logic does not reach? Can art change the world? We do not know, but what would change it, at best, is an effective immunization available to all children in the world. Why vaccines save lives and this is reminded of Bill Gates 'The Art of Saving a Life' campaign.
