The smallest baby in history: she weighed 225 grams at birth and her foot was practically like a nail

His name is Emilia Grabarczyk and could have broken a record at smallest baby in history who has managed to survive. When his foot was born it was the size of a nail and weighed just 225 grams, just as an apple of a slightly large size can weigh.

Emilia was born in Germany 9 months ago and has managed to survive by challenging science. At birth he measured 22 centimeters and with such a light weight doctors feared he would not survive. However, the girl soon earned the nickname of "the little fighter", because he managed to move forward, gain weight and grow as expected in the best case.

He was born in the 26th week of pregnancy

Perhaps one of the secrets of his survival was that born in the 26th week of pregnancy, by the time I was a little more mature than many babies born with more weight, but up to a month before. As we read in DailyMail, Dr. Bahman Gharavi, who attended to the girl, explained that it was almost miraculous to move on, especially considering that many babies born weighing almost 400 grams do not get it.

In fact, in the first months they dared not be very positive about it, because they did not want to give false hopes to parents. However, in recent weeks Emilia has already reached a weight of 3,225 kg and they see her getting stronger.

Why it arrived so soon and so small

At the beginning of the 26th week of gestation, Dr. Sven Schiermeier, chief obstetrician doctor, decided together with the parents that an urgent caesarean section should be performed. If not done, the girl would have ended up losing her life in the womb, because there was a problem with the placenta and Emilia was not receiving the nutritional contribution she needed to continue getting fat and growing. In that way, his weight was almost stagnant in that very small figure, of almost a third of the weight that he should have by gestational age.

Her parents agreed because they saw clearly that it was the only opportunity for the girl. If she was not born at that time they would lose her for sure, and in that way she could perhaps be saved.

To date, and although it has been hard, the girl is progressing well and, as the doctors explain, no signs of severe disability. His mother proudly explains that although there have been very difficult days and many tears, they are very happy because Emilia has shown them that she wanted to survive.

From here we want to wish the girl and her family that everything goes well for them.
