The judge of minors of Granada, Emilio Calatayud, affirmed yesterday in a television program that "girls are currently taking pictures like whores", In reference to Misuse by teenagers of social networks like Facebook or Instagram.

His statements have raised controversy again, and a few minutes later, Twitter was filled with messages both in favor and contrary to the judge's words, considering them tone outs and with chauvinistic and archaic connotations.

For and against the judge

The statements of Judge Emilio Calatayud, took place during the TVE program "The Morning", and caught off guard to the companions who accompanied him that they did not hesitate to reproach his words.

The judge later explained in his blog that this statement also extended it to children, and criticized that parents do not protect our children from this type of behavior how much damage they can cause them.

"After the photos, harassment, abuse and rape can come. And in fact it happens more frequently than we imagine (...) The strange thing is that I scandalized more the way of delivering the message than the content of the message, which is really worrisome "- laments the judge.

If something characterizes Judge Calatayud is his spontaneous way of speaking, which causes both sympathies and antipathies. And with this new affirmation, the social networks returned to position themselves.

You just have to see how many go down the street, or to the institute. Of course, the problem is that they later complain about the consequences.

From my point of view, the statements of Judge Calatayud are an absolute blunder; not only for him anymore disqualifying or the way to say it, but because nothing justifies a child being sexually assaulted. And this is something that adults should instill in our children since childhood.

However, it is undeniable that the hypersexualization of girls is a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly important in society and I consider that, as parents, we must become more aware of this problem and provide our children with tools to avoid it.

Education and hypersexualization

Advertising, the fashion industry, toys, music videos, television competitions and even certain children's drawings sometimes show the girls posing and acting like adult women. It is what is known as hypersexualization, and it is a practice that can carry serious dangers.

The main victims in these cases are usually girls, since the woman is shown as a sexual object and the age at which girls become it is advanced, adopting stereotyped roles and behaviors that do not correspond to the years they are.

This is something that, unfortunately, we observe more and more frequently and it is everyone's job, starting with the family, to protect our children (and especially our daughters), in this fast and superficial way of growing and maturing.

The cyberbullying of our children, sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancies are situations that concern all parents. While our children are small we do everything in our power to protect them, but, What happens when they grow up?

We have already commented, that more than half of eleven-year-old Spanish children have a smartphone. Personally, this data makes my hair stand on end because, really, does a child of that age know how to use mobile phones and social networks responsibly?

That is why it is so important that, on the one hand, parents educate our children in the responsible use of technologies, while informing them of the dangers of the Internet if not used correctly.

But in addition, it is essential instill respect for others and themselves. And this includes teaching them to respect their physique and love themselves as they are, without seeking hypersexualization of which we commented, but also teaching them that nobody is the one to criticize, attack or harass another for their physical appearance.

Our children will only live their childhood once in a lifetime, so it is everyone's job to protect it, not to advance it and educate them in respect, self-confidence and the confidence to come to us when they need it.
