The most common allergies in children

They are an immune response to certain elements or foods harmful to the body and they are becoming more and more common in children. They are usually more prone to allergies than older people, since their immune system is not yet fully developed.

The most common that affect children are:

  • Environmental: asthma, rhinitis and atopic dermatitis produced by pollen, dust, mites, fungi, chemicals, urine, smoke, pets.
  • Food intolerances: egg and milk are the most common, shellfish and fish, peanuts (peanuts), soybeans, wheat and less but also likely dyes and preservatives.
  • Allergy to certain medications and insect bites.

How to realize? Among the most common symptoms are: diarrhea, runny nose, hives, itching or swelling of the lips, tongue and throat, conjunctivitis, stomach pain, indigestion, difficulty breathing or in the worst case, a state of shock that needs urgent attention . Ear infections may also be related to allergies if they occur frequently.

In the case of food, symptoms usually appear within two hours after eating them. To detect them we must introduce the food one by one and separated from the rest of the food at the recommended age.

It is proven that feeding babies with breast milk reduces the risk of future allergies.

If one or both parents suffer from some type of allergy, the child is more likely to inherit it.

If we suspect that our children may have an allergy, the doctor will do the necessary tests to determine it.

Unfortunately, there are more and more allergies and the increase is attributed to the changes that occur in the environment and to the current lifestyle.
