Clean hands save lives

Around two million children die every day in the world every year, according to a study prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States. However, according to specialists, this figure could be reduced by half by taking a very simple measure: regularly wash your hands with soap and water.

The researchers reached this conclusion after implementing this system in a settlement in Karachi, Pakistan. Once a week and for a year they visited the houses in the area distributing soap and encouraging parents and children to clean themselves regularly. They observed that the incidence of diarrhea was reduced by 53% in those under 15 years.

According to the advice of this body, hand cleaning is essential before preparing and consuming food, after using the bathroom or sanitizing a child who has gone, after touching animals and handling trash, before and after attending to someone close to you who is sick and, of course, whenever they are dirty.

The specialists also tell us how to do it: you have to wet your hands with clean water (hot if available), apply soap and rub them vigorously for 20 seconds; It is also important not to pass between the fingers and under the nails, rinse them well, as well as dry them with a clean towel, preferably paper.
