Vaccination to prevent childhood gastroenteritis

Pediatricians who participated in the XII Annual Meeting of the Association of Outpatient Pediatrics of the Region of Murcia, recommended as an ideal option, Vaccination against childhood gastroenteritis for rotavirus before the baby turns six months old.

There is a minimal incidence of mortality with respect to this disease in developed countries, but there are risks of infection and morbidity. According to specialists, although rotavirus is oral-fecal transmission, it has been discovered that this virus can survive for up to a week on different surfaces such as desks or toys. Hence, contagion can be very active in children's centers. This disease causes great discomfort in the child, fever, dehydration due to diarrhea and vomiting and can even be admitted to hospital. The risk of suffering from this disease accompanies the younger age of the child, according to María Garcés, a member of the Vaccine Advisory Committee of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP), “the lower the baby, the greater the risk that the gastroenteritis condition is serious, since it weighs less, loses fluids and becomes dehydrated before. ”

Pediatricians recommend vaccination before six months and the first dose of the vaccine is before the third month of the baby. It is important to try to vaccinate the child if we do not want this disease to attack his body. Without a doubt it is a good measure that will ensure the well-being of our baby.
