Most asthmatic children are “from town”

There are more and more asthmatic children in developed countries, especially in cities. Why? Well, because of the poor quality of environmental life suffered by the inhabitants of the big cities.

According to the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) the fault lies in the contamination, of the gases emitted by the combustion of engines (especially those of diesel vehicles), and the urban lifestyle itself, with a more complex diet than that of the rural world and an excess of sedentary lifestyle.

Although, curiously, too much hygiene would be unraveling the immune system of children to respond to an asthmatic reaction, so going to daycare and contact with other children would strengthen them against the disease. Other factors that contribute to the development of asthma are having a mother who smokes during childbirth or who smokes in the presence of the child in her first years of life, dust mites, the hair of pets, diet changes.

And a fact that surprised me: experts point out that there is evidence that canned food preservatives and dyes may be at the origin of some asthmatic processes.

To strengthen the respiratory system, the consumption of fish and foods high in magnesium such as cereals, nuts, vegetables and dairy products is recommended.
