Given that Germany is the country in the world with fewer children and there has been a record birth rate down in 2005, the new program provides even more benefits.
With the intention of encouraging the young population to have children, it gives parents the possibility of reducing the working day to care for the newborn by receiving two thirds of the net monthly salary up to a maximum of 1,800 euros, for 12 months.
And if in addition, the other parent takes another two months, the benefit is extended to 14 months.
The first babies of the year born in Germany will come with a bread under their arm.
