500 million dollars against childhood obesity

Children who are obese or overweight today, are the adults of tomorrow who will present these same problems, some associations are aware of the serious problem that tomorrow's adults will suffer and want to remedy. An example of the initiatives and projects that are carried out are the 500 million dollars spent fighting childhood obesity and that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in the United States will allocate over the next five years.

The American figures are quite alarming, up to 25 million American children suffer from obesity, no doubt a serious problem for the near future. We have already talked repeatedly about all the problems associated with obesity, trying to solve them is a priority if we do not want our children to have a very bad quality of life in the future. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation believes that one of the most important aspects to be solved is the accessibility of a healthy lifestyle to everyone. As they explain, foods such as fruits or vegetables are not always accessible to the most disadvantaged communities because of the high prices they present, another aspect is adequate physical exercise, many American children have no places to play, especially in large cities.

This same situation is experienced in many Spanish cities, in addition you just have to retake the post Spanish childhood obesity outperforms the American. With regard to food, it happens entirely the same, it is useless to try to promote healthy lifestyle habits if the means are not within the reach of the population. Few are the efforts made in Spain aimed at reducing the cost of healthy foods for children or adults and information campaigns are of no use if there is no action that allows better access to the foods mentioned in these campaigns.

The fight against obesity and overweight must be equal to or greater than that which has been carried out against the habit of tobacco or alcohol. We hope that the competent authorities begin to take more effective solutions than simple posters or information leaflets.
