Pregnancy risks of hairdressers, children with congenital malformations

In Babies and more we have known that during pregnancy the use of hair dyes is not recommended because of the risks they may have for the future baby, they are chemicals that can seriously affect the development of the fetus, but we had not thought of the professionals who are dedicated to it, and a study by researchers from the Department of Public Health of the University of Alicante reaffirms that hairdressers have a higher risk of having problems with their reproductive health and of having children with congenital malformations.

The study "Women and working conditions: risks in pregnancy in hairdressers", requested by the Institute of Women at the University of Alicante, warns that the exposure of hairdressers to the products they use in their work and that contain compounds Chemicals affect fertility, can cause menstrual disorders and as we have said, that your babies are born with congenital malformations.

The investigation was carried out between 2004 and 2006 in 248 hairdressers, to 438 professionals under 50 years. They detected 12 toxic products for reproduction, carcinogens, hormonal disruptors and other allergens and irritants. It is also detected that none of the establishments visited have mechanical ventilation, which increases the risk of toxicity. These risks are very serious, to which the working condition is added, many hours of standing, days of more than eight hours, etc.

We hope that these types of studies will serve, in the first place, for the development of new products that do not contain substances that are so dangerous for professionals, but in the meantime, that they will be given less exposure to these toxins. You have not removed the desire to go to the hairdresser ?. And what solution will they put? Well, it is not enough to take the leave during pregnancy, the risks for a hairdresser are every day.
