Andalusian hospitals begin to join the care of natural childbirth

The change is happening. It is not from one day to the next, but little by little we are seeing how both private and public maternity schools are moving towards improving and humanizing childbirth care.

We have already commented on water births in some hospitals in Galicia where dilation bathtubs are being used to facilitate the process.

The same winds of change are blowing in Andalusia. The Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella is one of the pioneer centers where it has been done a major change in both mentality and facilities so that births are more natural.

The new philosophy of the Healthcare normal delivery strategy for a less "medicalized" delivery assistance would already be being implemented. The reforms that have taken place in this hospital as well as those of the Huércal-Overa de Almería are only the beginning because they plan to extend them to the rest of the centers of the autonomous community.

Specifically, in Marbella, the obstetrics area has been expanded from one to two operating rooms and five dilation rooms to six rooms for dilation, childbirth and the puerperium without the need for the mother to change rooms to give birth as it happened before and where He can be with his family all the time.

Another novelty is that an obstetric day hospital has been enabled with two exploration rooms, two consultations and five monitoring rooms where birth processes are controlled.

At the time of birth itself, in this center the woman can choose the position she prefers to give birth, whether vertical, squatting, lying down and whether or not she prefers to cancel the pain with epidural anesthesia.

Surely these new services are well received by future moms. Hopefully so, because if the experience is good, the Minister of Health has announced that it will be applied in all centers and maternity centers.
