Cooking with children

Yesterday I was reading an article on childhood obesity published in the Special Children of El País Weekly. The author talked about the importance of laying the foundations for healthy eating since our children are very young.

In this regard, opening our kitchen doors to our children and putting them in contact with food since childhood is very important. In this way, we invite children to discover from a very early age the varied world of food, promoting the basic notions of a healthy and balanced diet.

Now, how do we make cooking an entertaining plan? Well doing it through the game. Appealing to imagination, and of course to patience, we can be inspired by recipes for children's stories, both true and invented by us. For example, we can prepare the recipes of Ratatouille, some chickpeas "a la Garbancito" or some cookies like "Alice in Wonderland", for sharing some ideas that have come to mind.

It is very likely that the chickpeas do not make them very funny, but perhaps being those who eat Garbancito, they find them more palatable. In Consumer Eroski they also give us some good ideas to inspire us in children's stories when preparing certain dishes.

We have to start with dishes that are easy to prepare such as snacks, snacks, salads, snacks, ice cream, etc., in which the presentation plays a fundamental role. The pizzas and the cakes are very successful among the little ones, as well as the fruits cut in pieces by their color, so you can already go thinking about a fruit salad or a fruit smoothie for the snack.

Another interesting point is to prepare the ground, that is, the kitchen, childproof. It is not time to worry about order, but the important thing is that children participate in the preparation of food. There will be time to order and clean, which by the way, is a part of the process in which it is important that children are also involved.

In addition to the playful touch that we can give with the stories, there are other elements that are "scenographic" that children love as is the chef's clothing (with hat included), cookbooks, dishes with children's motifs, molds, etc. They are an added way to stimulate the taste for food.

But involving them in everything related to food is not limited to cooking together. The process begins with making the purchase, choosing food, making contact with them, preparing the table and of course sharing the table, to turn the meal time into a pleasant moment of family union.
