Today, World Diabetes Day

Taking advantage of the fact that today, November 14, World Diabetes Day is celebrated, it is interesting to be aware of how to fight the disease and understand why cases have increased so much in children in recent years.

More and more children under 5 are diagnosed with diabetes, making it one of the most frequent chronic diseases in childhood. Type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes cannot be prevented, but type 2 diabetes is mainly associated with sedentary lifestyle and overweight.

According to experts, in addition to the genetic causes, which have hardly changed in recent times, the trigger of the disease at such early ages is related to a number of factors, as worrisome as the increase in the disease.

Among the responsible causes, they mention the excessive promptness with which cow's milk protein is introduced into the diet of the little ones, excessively caloric feeding, poor eating habits (obesity) and sedentary lifestyle; but they also talk about factors related to pregnancy and childbirth such as viral infections suffered by the mother during pregnancy, the advanced ages of maternity, the greatest birth weight and the practice of caesarean section.

Already considered one of the epidemics of today, along with obesity and cardiovascular disease, so it is necessary to become aware at all levels and start generating change.
