Today, December 25, the Nativity of Jesus is celebrated in many corners of the world. Born over 2000 years ago was breastfed by his mother and apparently prolonged, as we can see in this sculpture (and others that I put below) or at least that was believed by those who made them in their day.
"After six months, milk is water", "the breast is good but after six months wean it," "children should take a tit until they get their teeth out", "let me take a tit with two years no it can be normal ”,“ that is no longer food, it is vice ”,“ when I grow up it will have psychological problems ”and many others that I leave are very common phrases in the pediatrician's office, on the landing of your house, in the food Familiar and even in the street.
It is logical, we are the children of the bottle, of the artificial milk that arrived decades ago to replace the worst milk of the mother (thus it was advertised then) and what one chose for her son because it was the best advises for the children of the others, it will continue to be, right?
The progress of science and the studies that have been carried out to analyze breast milk and artificial milk have put each of them in place, breast milk being better both for a newborn baby, and for a child of 2, 3 or more years.
To say that it is not normal for a two-year-old child to breastfeed is a lot to say. Agree that it is not usual, but it is completely normal if we consider that thousands of years ago that breastfeeding is prolonged and that it was not until the last century, with the arrival of artificial milk, when children began to drink less milk breast to drink more artificial milk or cow (well, both are cow, in fact).
In relation to possible psychological problems, there are several studies carried out on children who have been breastfed for a prolonged period that deny this theory. Moreover, since breastfeeding is not only food but it is tenderness, comfort and contact between mother and child, it has been shown that there is a relationship between the duration of breastfeeding and better cognitive development evaluated with the Bayley scale (assesses mental and psychomotor development) one year and two years of age.
And if you don't believe it, look at Jesus' example, prolonged breastfeeding and saved the world, right?
