Babykeeper, a mattress that helps prevent sudden death and warns you if your baby has a fever

Baby's sleep is one of the parents' greatest concerns. A good rest is essential for your health, therefore the choice of baby mattress is a key element. Researchers at the European Institute for Sleep Quality in Valencia (ESCI) have developed BabyKeeper, a crib mattress that reduces the risk of sudden death and maintains a safe temperature, reducing the risk of thermal stress.

In addition, it also warns when the child has a fever by changing color and reduces atopic skin infections.

Benefits and innovations

The technicians of the Sleep Institute explain that "There are so many risks associated with the sleep and rest phase in the first months of life of babies, who have invested six years of research to create a children's mattress that allows parents to sleep more peacefully. "

The project has been progressing in phases, incorporating innovations. Babykeeper has several functionalities:

  • Protects airway obstruction: If there is a regurgitation of gastric flow, the resulting fluid does not cause waterlogging, thus reducing the risk of choking the baby.

  • Reduces the risk of sudden death by 60% thanks to the firmness of Babykeeper®. Even in a lateral posture or if the baby moves and is placed upside down the mattress has been designed not to force the respiratory system and in any case to clog it.

  • It promotes heat perspiration and evacuation: thanks to the reticular design of the core and the 3D fabric of the sheath, it is possible to improve heat perspiration and evacuation with what is reduces the risk of SIDS by 48%.

  • Control the child's body temperature: The Therm mattress cover, has a thermoactive fabric, also developed by ESCI, which changes color when it detects fever in the baby, one of the critical situations associated with sleep.

  • Prevents atopic dermatitis. It is the latest innovation: a treatment applied to the cover of all BabyKeeper mattresses, called Dermawell. Inhibits the bacteria by 99% Staphylococcus aureus, responsible for infecting rashes on babies' skins.

In fact, atopic dermatitis is one of the most common problems in newborns and its incidence is increasing, affecting in Spain between one and two babies in 20, according to data from the Spanish Association of Pediatrics.
