Almost half of the children are bad eaters

According to the first study of ill-eating children prepared by the Observatory of Child Nutrition, 47% of Spanish children between the ages of 1 and 10 eat poorly due to inappropriate family habits. Curious that a year ago a similar study showed 40%.

Among the main errors in the feeding of the small ones, it is worth noting that they eat little quantity, little variety and sometimes both combined, which results in 4% of cases of childhood obesity.

Another serious flaw is that two out of four children never eat essential foods for healthy growth and a reinforced immune system such as vegetables, legumes and fish.

I don't know if the study will have been done with children who eat at school, since in most school menus various foods are included (or should be included). Recently, contrary to what happened years ago, specialists in child nutrition said that in school you eat better than at home.

Another highlight of the study on infant feeding is that 75% of children eat watching TV and take twice as usual to eat. Television is one of the great enemies of childhood obesity, not only because of the messages it transmits, but when eating watching TV, it is eaten automatically, without limit and without enjoying the moment of food.

The truth is that the data indicate that we are going astray and that at this rate the numbers of children who are ill-eating and with childhood obesity will only grow. The question is: whose fault is it, the TV, the school or the parents who are overwhelmed by the situation?

I think that rather than blame the parents we should turn off the TV at lunchtime, provided that you can sit at the table with your family and turn the meal time into a pleasant, pleasant and stress-free time. In that context and by giving a little imagination to the preparation of food we can make children eat better, more varied and more relaxed.
