Imesha handmade dolls, designed by children from Sri Lanka

Away from Barbies or Bratz, these dolls will be known by very few children and parents, but they deserve their place in our screens and consciences. These handmade dolls for the benefit of women and children in Sri Lanka They have been designed by the children themselves.

It has been Selyn, a foundation based in Sri Lanka, that has created this project in which they have used drawings of children from the poorest areas of the country, specifically from the Kurunegala district, to design these handmade dolls and 100% cotton

And we saw some stuffed animals based on children's designs, as well as other dolls. The paintings that decorate the walls also often use children's designs, all with very characteristic strokes that undoubtedly attract the little ones, because they arise from their imagination.

The Imesha doll series goes further, and by design they have won an international award in 2010 and are nominated to others for next year.

What misses me somewhat is that, as we see in the picture, one of the dolls is inspired by the drawing of a soldier with his holster and his gun, and that they have transformed it into a doll, with the amount of drawings that they will have had.

But perhaps it is to remind us of what these children are used to, and a touch of attention to the presence of daily violence in many parts of the world.

Therefore these handmade dolls serve a solidary purpose, since a part of the benefits are intended to promote the growth of hand looms and improve the living conditions of community members. Its price is 42 euros plus shipping.
