Situations that can favor obesity

One of the concerns of today's society is the growing number of people of all ages who are obese. From childhood, we can ensure that our children lead healthy living habits to prevent excess weight, since obesity at an early age can creep into adulthood.

There are certain situations that may favor eating more than necessary, adding calories little by little and making our children (and the whole family) have a higher risk of developing obesity, with the health complications that this could entail.

These are some of these everyday situations that we should take care of or limit so that they do not occur regularly:

  • Eat while doing something else (watch TV, walk, study). In these situations it is easier not to realize that we are already satiated. In addition, it is advisable to eat as a family chatting, without distractions beyond our conversation, a time to enjoy with our children.

  • Take a dairy dessert as a rule or a cake after a normal meal, including dessert fruit.

  • Try to quench your thirst by drinking only juices or soft drinks. Drinking water is a simple prevention of obesity.

  • When we start to go to the cinema as a family, we must avoid that "the usual" is to enter the cinema with a lot of popcorn, soft drinks and goodies.

  • Eating out at home on weekends giving in to the temptation to eat more than usual, asking for more menus ...

  • That "normal" is that all children's celebrations include a bag of sweets, soft drinks and salty snacks. Here you have some alternatives to bags of goodies.

  • Make several trips to the fridge due to boredom or anxiety, pecking chocolate, candy or any food.

  • Not doing enough exercise and also spend a lot of time in front of the game console, the computer or the television. It is known that physical exercise is better than diets for childhood obesity, so do not neglect this aspect. We leave you some tips so that they are not all day stuck to the screens.

  • Peck instead of eating when you are hungry.

  • Insufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables. It would be advisable to include five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day in the children's menu.

  • Choose a dairy dessert instead of fruit, which can be very good from time to time, but that eliminates a piece of fruit a day (or two, if dinner is included ...) if it is always done.

  • Take breakfast cereals that provide excessive amounts of sugar or chocolate or that are added. We know that not all breakfast cereals are so healthy, and many have an excess of sugars and saturated fats.

  • Abuse bread and pastries at mid-morning snacks or lunches.

It is clear that because from time to time we will meet in one of these situations, our children will not be obese, but they are situations that are lived as usual as a rule, and more if several of them accumulate, they could favor overweight.

Preventing obesity from childhood we also prevent various diseases associated with excess weight and our children will grow healthier and avoiding these situations that can favor obesity.
