By analyzing how child labor affects the main school indicators, the ILO conclusions reinforce the conviction that combating child labor is a means to achieve the goals set by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The report highlights that:

  • There is clear evidence that when the children work and go to schoolAs work hours increase, school attendance decreases.

  • High levels of child labor are associated with lower results in the Education Development Index, which measures the performance of universal primary education, adult literacy, the quality of education and gender equality of a country (takes data from 127 countries of the world).

  • There is an important relationship between the level of economic activity of children and the repetition rates of primary school. Grade repetition often leads to children dropping out of school.

  • Children rural workers They tend to be among the most disadvantaged. Girls often have a double workload inside and outside the home, which endangers their schooling.
