Raise the baby after birth taking care of the pelvic floor

Alterations in the pelvic floor can occur during pregnancy and vaginal delivery, so it is important to strengthen the muscles to have a good birth and a better postpartum recovery.

Although it is not advisable to lift weight in the three weeks after delivery, either in case of vaginal or cesarean delivery, bending over to catch the baby is an inevitable (and desirable) gesture that the recent mother should make. That's why it's important to know how to lift the baby after childbirth taking care of the pelvic floor .

What is recommended in pregnancy, and in general to lift weight, is, instead of bending the waist, flex the knees until the whole body is lowered. But nevertheless, you will not be able to do this movement after delivery, especially in case of points such as episiotomy or caesarean section.

So, the recommended posture to lift the baby while protecting the pelvic muscle (the hammock-shaped muscle group that supports the lower abdomen) is to center the balance on the hip and not the waist.

You should place your hip firmly, without moving it, and lean your body forward while flexing your knees slightly, without demanding the lower back. To practice, you can try placing both hands at the sides of the body below the waist and try to perform this movement without moving the hip place.

In this way, you can lift the baby after childbirth focusing the movement in the hip and without demanding the pelvic floor muscles that remain relaxed.

Remember that in addition to these postural tips, it is convenient to perform exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor after delivery, but always in a gradual manner. Just how much you feel prepared.
