How do dangerous toys reach the market?

With some frequency we realize on our pages the withdrawal of toys and other children's products from the market that pose a health risk. And we wonder how is it possible that some of those dangerous items are for sale on store shelves.

The problem is not so much in national products, which usually follow strict safety regulations (although there are also "slips" here), but in that you cannot control all the product that enters our borders from other countries. There are so many routes of entry and both the volume of goods, it is impossible to review each of the, say, toy containers.

In addition, many of the defective products, mostly from Asian countries, skip the controls to enter Europe, a process that can take weeks, even months, until receiving the European Union quality seal (which, on the other hand, is also falsified).

That is why it is often the consumer who runs into the dangerous product in a store, and that is why the authorities and consumer organizations have to go to these stores to verify that the toys are suitable and follow the safety regulations. These are periodic checks in which dangerous items are always removed.

But of course, also in this case it is impossible to visit all shops, toy stores, shops "all a hundred" ... and indeed, dangerous toys "sneak in" And, what is worse, they may not be detected until they cause harm to a child.

In addition, according to the Valencian Association of Consumers and Users (AVACU), there are new consumption habits that encourage us to take home cheaper products (buy more quantity, for less money).

And many of the products that are sold at a low price confirm the saying that cheap is expensive: they have many deficiencies, such as parts that come off easily, lack of labels or labeling in foreign languages or in an unintelligible Spanish ...

We, as consumers exposed to these risks, must verify that the labeling is correct and follow these safety tips. Against this background, it is not surprising that in Europe campaigns are being carried out to boost the purchase of safe toys.

It seems that nobody is safe and until dangerous toys cannot be prevented from reaching the market, we have to follow all safety recommendations and claim that more strict and frequent regulations and controls are established.
