Christmas food care during pregnancy

Future moms should be cautious with food, and this recommendation also applies to special occasions related to copious meals such as Christmas.

Both for digestive discomfort, and for avoiding weight gain and dangerous foods, there are certain care that pregnant women should have at Christmas meals.

Due to the increase in the size of the uterus and the action of hormones, pregnant women have a slower and heavier digestion, so instead of eating too many meals, the recommendation is to eat smaller portions several times a day.

If you neglect you can increase two or three kilos during the holidays, so to prevent excessive weight gain you should avoid foods high in fat, as well as foods that are too salty and sugary. He prefers less fatty meats such as turkey, chicken or fish and homemade meals rather than industrially prepared foods.

As for fish and seafood, which are always present at Christmas tables, it is prohibited in pregnancy the consumption of raw or undercooked fish or shellfish to avoid the risk of poisoning or infections due to the parasites that raw fish can have, such as anisakis. Therefore, forget about sushi, ceviche or any dish that includes fish or seafood without cooking in its preparation.

The prohibition also extends to fish or shellfish smoked, salted, pickled or marinated, which have not undergone cooking processes.

The ham is not missing on these dates either. Although there are recent studies that rule out the relationship between ham and toxoplasmosis, or that if previously frozen has no risk, it is better to prevent the risk and avoid its consumption, as well as sausages.

As for alcohol, not a drop. There is no safe dose for the fetus, even "a glass to toast" could affect you, therefore, follow the recommendation that pregnancy and alcohol are incompatible and to toast with water.

Finally, some recommendations to improve digestion. Chew food well, get up from the table between plates, try not to drink carbonated drinks, drink a digestive infusion at the end of the meal and wait at least two hours to go to sleep.

If you are pregnant, follow these recommendations on care you should take at Christmas meals. Think that the priority this year is your health and that of your baby, so it is well worth being prudent on these dates.
