"Asthma in childhood and adolescence": clearing doubts about the disease

A few days ago it was presented the book "Asthma in childhood and adolescence", which responds to the commitment that the María José Jove Foundation has with the investigation of childhood allergic diseases.

The book has been published together with the BBVA Foundation, after confirming in a study prepared in 2010 in 208 primary and secondary schools the general lack of knowledge about asthma. Its objective is to become a useful instrument for the knowledge of this chronic disease that affects more and more children.

Guidelines are offered to families and teachers to know what to do when asthmatic children have a crisis or to try to prevent one from occurring. The elaboration of the work involves 14 medical experts, who approach this problem from a scientific but affordable point of view.

Experts point out the importance of the education of patients and their closest people, and giving more normality to this condition and teaching prevention and self-care strategies improves the quality of life of patients, who may, for example, exercise with normal.

The book we are talking about is a general consultation, organized in the form of questions and answers that address basic information about the disease to specific issues that can be raised in the day-to-day lives of homes and schools. It is divided into 10 sections:

  • Respiratory system
  • Asthma concept
  • Asthma Symptoms
  • Asthma Diagnosis
  • Treatment
  • Control and self-care in asthma
  • Asthma at school
  • Asthma and physical activity and sport
  • Special situations
  • The family in the chronic illness of the child

If you have asthmatic children at home or in class, we recommend the book "Asthma in childhood and adolescence", which can be read online (interactive book) or we can also request a printed version of it.
