Children who participate in the Junior First Lego League do field work visiting a Senior Day Center

We commented at the end of last year that the school of the little one had posed a challenge aimed at young people from 6 to 9 years focused on the promotion of interest in science and technology. The school made a selection filter and finally the little one is part of the team that will participate in the Junior First Lego League, so they are in the middle of collecting ideas for the final project.

The other day, and as a complement to the investigation phase, they were taken to a Madrid Day Center to see first hand what the reality of the elderly is, their needs and to share with the professionals of the Center the way of working with this type of people.

And is that the robot, or the design they have to make, is invent something that facilitates the lives of the elderly. My daughter told me that the Center had a great time, that the grandparents treated them very well and that they learned a lot. It is very interesting how you can learn to take requirements with 9 years in a playful way.

The children talked with the elders, they made a record with age, the number of grandchildren, what they like a lot and what they dislike most. They also learned that the elders are able to do many things, for example, they saw them working making crafts (flowers and vases) with paper and they also noticed that they need a lot of love, attention and that they always have loved ones close by. They also learned to assess the diseases that as we get older start to be more frequent.

Apparently the next step is to make a mural with everything learned in the Day Center. They will continue to learn and little by little they will approach the goal set by the Junior First Lego League.

As parents we are trying to help, encourage and motivate although what we do not want to miss is the day they present the work. The most important thing and so they have to be happy is because they are learning a lot and also working on building useful things for the elderly.
