'My best friend is a statue': the app for children to learn to take care of their backs

'My best friend is a statue' is an application that offers content and formats adapted for children, between 3 and 8 years old, with advice on how to load the backpack or how to sit properly

It has been developed by the Professional Association of Physiotherapists of the Community of Madrid

Your goal is that the kids learn to take care of their backs and not to adopt bad postures, thus avoiding the appearance of future musculoskeletal injuries derived from bad habits acquired in childhood. This new app is available in Spanish, English, French and German, and is compatible with Apple mobile devices such as Ipod touch, Ipad and Iphone 5. It offers content and formats adapted to these ages with tips on how to avoid problems that affect the childhood such as sedentary lifestyle, childhood obesity, spending too much time watching TV or playing console, among others.

The information is explained through a children's story starring "Zgmrtsglub" a friendly Martian whose best friend has become a statue for adopting bad habits, having neglected healthy games. The child, through interaction with the characters and objects, will help the protagonist to recover her best friend, through healthy recommendations and changing habits.

The application has versions adapted to different ages. Thus, for the little ones, the story is “shorter” and is narrated by an announcer, while for the older ones, an extended version of the story is offered, with the option of reading it themselves, thus encouraging, In addition, the habit of reading.

This app is part of the preventive activity of the CPFCM, which, as we know, also teaches workshops in Madrid schools to teach children to take care of their backs. In these activities, the monitors accompany their explanations of materials such as digital stories, short films, or puppet puppets.
