Educating without corsets or how the use of ICTs in student training is impacting

In the video you can see the EOI session (School of Industrial Organization) included in the Creative Society series and that bore the title of Educating without Corsets. The New Technological Education. The session speakers they were Víctor Calvo-Sotelo Ibáñez-Martín, Secretary of State for Telecommunications and for the Information Society, César Nombela Cano, Rector of the Menéndez Pelayo International University and Nieves Segovia, President of the SEK Educational Institution. The moderation, presentation and closing is done by Oscar Del Moral Queipo who is Vice Dean at the EOI.

I think it is fortunate to know first hand what is happening in education and how it is impacting the use of technology in educational processes and especially how it has become a fundamental resource that is allowing students to appear in the training New concepts and ideas.

From the intervention of the speakers I especially recommend the intervention of Nieves Segovia for his vision of education which puts the student at the center of the whole process and from there you can build a scenario in which the student evolves, in a personalized way, with a personal rhythm and style, from elementary school to the world of work.

From the intervention of Víctor Calvo-Sotelo, I highlight the perception that The current situation demands new professionals with extensive knowledge and skills development although, in general, it is no longer necessary to find work after having obtained training in a specific subject. He also indicated that memory is no longer as relevant and that knowledge is available to us on multiple devices.

Victor remembered Richard Feynman and how his father explained to him since he was little why things happened, how things work and especially to reason without memorizing. The new technologies allow to develop this type of skills and make knowledge not the difference but the skills acquired to identify, solve problems and acquire critical vision.

They also talked about the little or little link between business and education, which reminded me of my time as a student, more than 15 years ago, and it seems that we don't know how to solve because they remain, with exceptions, such as watertight compartments that do not help to make a smooth transition between the learning process and access to the job market for the student.

In addition there was time to talk about the educational reform that Nieves Segovia considered as more political than educational and in which he clearly loses education. It was indicated that it will be a consensus reform although not transformation and in which short-term primacy.

And of course they talked about the teachers, how the Finnish school is working and its teacher model with authority, for knowledge, effort, dedication and remuneration, so it was indicated that you have to wait for teachers to teach you to think, to build critical thinking with your students, to understand technology as a training element and to facilitate that students learn with it. It was indicated that it is necessary to redefine the teacher model in one day, in which we also learned the results of the access tests for teachers in the Community of Madrid.

We congratulate EOI for the organization of the event, the magnificent display of media that allows us to embed and share the video of the session and because the speakers show the need to continue advancing in education with a focus on transformation using technology as a means to develop new skills and competencies of students.
