Federico García Lorca and his poems dedicated to the little ones

Federico García Lorca He was born in the Granada town of Fuentevaqueros in 1898. According to his biography, his father was a rich farmer and his mother was a very wise woman who taught him his first lyrics so from a very young age he appreciated the days of the outdoors, the puppets, the Books and be with your friends. He traveled to Madrid where he met the artists of the 1927 generation: Juan Ramón Jiménez, Rafael Alberti, Jorge Guillén, Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí. His literary works focus on the poetry and in the theater, two fascinating styles that, in my opinion, are studied and work very little in school. As everyone knows, Lorca died on August 19, 1936, a victim of the Spanish civil war.

I have remembered that some Spanish publishers, such as Susaeta with beautiful illustrations by Alicia Cañas, they have published works with the title of Federico García Lorca for children. These publications, very suitable for the classroom of children and primary, you can find poems of great beauty, rhythm, musicality, imagination and fantasy. At home we have reviewed some of them and my daughter told me that they could read as if they were a rap. For example, La Tarara. In Susaeta's work you can find works dedicated to songs and rhythms, to some animals, to nature and landscapes, to childhood and games. Ballads and loves, stories and legends and poems are also included.

From the blog of Mª Lourdes Giraldo Vargas I have found a beautiful biography made by Antonio Manuel Herreros Vega that explains some of the most important stages in the life of Lorca and that can be used as an educational resource:

Federico Garcia Lorca desde afobito

Here I also leave an example of Lorca's children's poem in which you can appreciate the rhythm and the color of the text. It's called the Lizard is crying:

The lizard is crying. The lizard is crying. The lizard and the lizard with white aprons. They have unwittingly lost their betrothed ring. Oh! his lead ring, alas! his plumbing ring A big sky without people rides the birds in his balloon. The sun, round captain, wears a satin waistcoat. Look at them how old they are! How old are the lizards! Oh, how they cry and cry! Oh, oh, how they are crying!

On the Internet there are a lot of fascinating resources about Lorca's work and I also think they are free because copyright has expired after 70 years after the author's death. So I encourage you to review them, share them and spread them. In Boolino I have also seen links to children's works so they can be a starting point to get to know the work.
