Ask the midwife: a girl who comes from buttocks

We begin today our new section: Ask the midwife, for which we are going to count on the collaboration of midwife Marina Fernández, who will answer each week to one of the questions that our readers need to raise.

This week we have chosen a question that will surely interest many readers who are going to face this situation: a baby that comes from buttocks and the prescription of a caesarean section scheduled for this reason.

Marina Fernandez She is a midwife, specializing in home birth, a lactation consultant and an expert in complementary therapies. She is a member of the Professional Association Born at Home and a founding partner of Multilacta. Each week he will collaborate with Babies and more by answering a question from our readers. You can know her better on her Marina Matrona page.

The question we have selected is that of Rosana Colibrí, this is:

Hi. I am 30 years old, I am a first-time and I am 37 + 3, I am going to have a girl who is still pure buttocks and in the last echo they told me that I was justin amniotic fluid (I do not know if I heard them say each other 5.5 or something like that and that had two gaps, sorry but that was what I heard and I am not familiar with the terms). I have been doing prenatal yoga since the fourth month, the analytics and echoes have always turned out perfect, the perfect sugar, negative streptococci, I feel great and I have had a very good pregnancy. We have tried investments, moxibustion, talking with my girl and for now nothing works. I have been preparing for a natural childbirth and given the two inconveniences mentioned at the beginning I see myself at the recommendation in my hospital to have a caesarean section scheduled for next week. My doubts are whether that amount of liquid is really dangerous, if a vaginal delivery is indeed unfeasible and in the case of having to assume a caesarean section if it would be risky to wait for a delivery for my daughter to be born when she is ready and give her everything the possible time in case you have to turn around. As you can see I have many doubts and little time. I would be grateful if you could advise me so that I could make the most informed, responsible and respectful decision with my baby. If it is not possible to answer me through this section, I would appreciate it if you could do it privately, since I am a little worried about the situation. A hug and thanks in advance.

We copy the response of Matron Marina Fernández:

"Hello Rosana. First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. Now we are going to solve the doubts little by little.

Regarding what you heard on the ultrasound regarding the amniotic fluid, I tell you that this value of 5'5 is the I.L.A. (Amniotic fluid index), is within normal range for your baby's gestational age, but at the low limit. This means that it is a little more difficult for your baby to turn in the gut and you should make controls of cardiotocographic monitors, to continue assessing that everything is fine, and even ultrasound to see that the liquid you have does not decrease anymore. Typically, there are 4 liquid gaps and the measurements of each are added, but if you heard 2, they might be larger and added up to the total. Regarding this issue, you can be calm.

We go with the buttocks. One of the reasons that lead a baby to be breech is stress and / or fear. I know it is easy to tell you to relax, and that it will be very difficult for you, but it is essential to achieve a state of maximum relaxation in the first place. Some of the techniques to go around the baby, you've already commented on them like yoga, moxibustion, investments and talking with your girl; You can also do craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, it is highly recommended to swim and especially be in positions with the gut down and the head also, if possible, adopt the posture of the Mohammedan prayer 3 times a day for at least 20 minutes ( although the latter must be started by week 30 to achieve maximum effectiveness). You can also make an external version of your baby and, ultimately, have the delivery in a hospital where they are used to attend vaginal buttock deliveries.

If you are still on your buttocks and cannot go to a hospital where you usually attend vaginal breech births, you can suggest that your gynecologist wait for you to give birth to go to perform the caesarean section. You can take a caesarean plan so that it is as respected as possible and know your preferences regarding various issues to consider as we have already mentioned the start of contractions to go to the hospital, it is very important that before performing the caesarean section they make you one last ultrasound because some babies turn around at the last moment and / or with labor contractions, the non-separation of your child, the early onset of breastfeeding, etc.

I hope this information is useful to you and I wish you the best for the birth of your child. "

We wish this new section: Ask matron Marina Fernández, it will be useful and we invite you to leave new questions in the comments to this post, to be able to select one of them and publish your answer next week.
