Lactamás, an application on breastfeeding

There is no issue that is not taken to our phones. It is also the turn of Lactation: Lactamás is an application for mobile phone that four Canarian medical students have developed and that they intend to offer information to mothers who breastfeed their children.

The application was developed as end-of-course work of the subject of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, and was born with an informative and promotional vocation, remarking that "in no case supplants medical opinion".

The topics are quite clear and briefly exposed, so that technology can give us a first clue about what concerns us or what we have doubts about. Lactamás also demystifies the false beliefs inherited from mothers to daughters who not only deal with pregnancy and childbirth, but also on breastfeeding, as we have been telling you in the blog.

The authors of the application intend to end certain beliefs that make you opt for artificial lactation, informing about the proven benefits of breast milk, both for the baby and for the mother. Through Lactamás, nursing mothers can clarify all their doubts, even the application has an email where they can ask their own questions.

Lactamás is very simple and intuitive to use, some sections maybe too short, but as we say, it can be a good starting point. The main menu consists of three large blocks: general knowledge, care and maternal problems, and care and problems of the infant.

In the section on basic concepts you can find multimedia content such as photos and drawings of your own, with a language adapted to the general population. We also found three videos of our own about breastfeeding and milk extraction techniques, whose direct links are in the application.

We also find links to reference websites such as the Spanish Association of Pediatrics, and we will continue to find news because the authors intend to update the application with more information.

The Lactamás application that informs about breastfeeding is free and can be found on Google Play for Android. It is a simple complementary tool to go to, although remember that breastfeeding consultants can also help you and in case of any health problem you should consult your doctor.
