Kinsa, a smart thermometer that connects to your smartphone

We live in the world of, as my grandfather says, "those electronic pots that will make you dumb one day." We have televisions that connect to the internet and allow you to watch a game of tennis as if you were sitting in the referee's chair, mobiles that carry a calculator, a compass, a notebook, a walkman and even a complex geolocation system for satellite and every day we can "put" in more and more devices. One of them is the Kinsa, a smart thermometer that connects to your smartphone and uses its connectivity to improve its functions beyond the rapid reading of body temperature.

What is it?

The Kinsa smart thermometer itself has no batteries, no LCD screen, or a processor, instead it feeds on your iPhone and uses all its power. This allows the thermometer to be thin, flexible and comfortable, especially for children.

The Kinsa connects to the iPhone through the headphone jack, either directly or through an optional extension cable and sends the data to a proprietary application installed on the mobile that will show an animation with bubbles while we wait for the temperature .

More than a thermometer, it is a mobile medical office

Or at least try, because not only is it limited to tell us the temperature that we or our children have, but that keep a record of all measurements taken to us or to any of the members of our family and thus be able to keep a graph of thermal oscillations of the last 48 hours when we present ourselves and emergencies, because it also shows us a series of possible symptoms that we could be suffering at that time, and thus give us an approximate diagnosis and a list of telephone numbers and addresses of the medical centers closest to us.

The Kinsa application feeds on information from a database to see what kind of diseases are around where you are. If there is an outbreak of influenza or chickenpox, then it is possible that other people are suffering from the same and the application will show you on the map. The perfect complement for any lover of viral apocalypse. The bad thing is that it only works if there are other users of the application near you.

The Kinsa smart thermometer was born as a crowdfunding or collective financing campaign in Indiegogo, and will soon be available.
