"Spring Rolls": a different friendship story than the ones you know

“Rollitos de Primavera” is another one of those stories recently edited by Edebé, in this case from the Tucan Naranja collection (for children over eight years old). It has been written and illustrated by Paloma Bordons, and tells us a story of intolerance, but also of friendship and acceptance.

Its main protagonists are Lin and Julio: the first, a Chinese girl whose father runs a bazaar; the second is a boy who lives in a residential area of buildings that share common spaces (playground, swings, etc.). The school where one goes, and the school the other attends are also different. But the only thing the girl looks for when she finishes classes is friendship and the company of someone who is her age.

There are other protagonists, but their “protagonism” in the narrative is inversely proportional to the one they represent: because Deck may be a rude bully like his father, but deep down who is with him does a little for fear of reprisals and teasing.

Julio's parents also want to look good with the other adults, but it is clear that they do not accept the way they behave with strangers.

If it all starts with the rejection of Lin, only because she dares to enter the swing yard that others enjoy; finally the magic of the Chinese New Year attracts more than one inhabitant from Magnolia street number 7.

It is an educational book that transmits values and feelings, and only costs 8.50 euros
