Code.org so that children can start learning programming

Code.org It is a non-profit organization that aims to offer each student the opportunity to learn programming. Although I am not very supportive of children doing homework in the summer with Notebooks that encourage repetition!Yes, I think it is worth approaching this type of initiatives during the holiday period to be able to know and review other ways of doing to maintain the momentum of what has been learned and not get too careless to the next course.

In Spain there are many initiatives, and several of them we have commented on in Peques and Más, although, in my opinion, it still exists poor coordination and much dispersion. In this case, the Code.org initiative informs that for children under 13 It is necessary to obtain consent and it is not possible to register without it. In any case, parents and guardians can take advantage of one day of the week to take a look, share the experience with the children and then let them go and ask them how was the experience.

What the platform offers is to register and start learning computer science with an introductory course. The process is completed with time and exercises that the platform indicates how they are resolved. The format that I have seen is very scratch, although I have not seen the typical cat and I have seen very attractive drawings like the Angry Birds, well known to the kids.

I have come to this page because Mercedes Bernal, ICT coordinator, has recommended it to me, which we recently interviewed and that has passed the information to practice, via a code to register, to their students. It seems to me that the experience has been a success and that the kids have been able to learn a lot although, as always, it is necessary to be insistent and practice while still learning.

In any case, we thank Mercedes for the information she has sent us and we encourage you to check the page to bring the kids closer to learning the programming.
