Thanks to the freezing of her ovarian tissue when she was a child, today she was able to be a mother

We have known cases of women who have become mothers thanks to a transplant of ovarian tissue seeing the effectiveness of this technique in the short term, but it is the first time that we know a happy result in the long term. It's about a woman who thanks to the freezing of her ovarian tissue when she was a child, she has been able to be a mother.

22 years have passed since the first studies on this technique and today we can know really amazing cases of the first girls in which it was practiced and today they have the age of being mothers.

The protagonist of this story has had to go through a succession of procedures to be able to achieve it. But, let us start at the beginning. Unlike the cases that have occurred so far, it is not a cancer patient. At 5 years old, she was diagnosed with a hematological pathology called sickle cell anemia for which doctors recommended a bone marrow transplant that she would receive from her brother.

Before the transplant, the girl would have to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy, to minimize the chances of rejection of the new organ. Therefore, at age 13 62 fragments of the cortex of his right ovary were removed and frozen. The funny thing is how his first menstruation had not yet come to him, the one that was extracted was still immature ovarian tissue and has shown that he is able to mature and be fertile.

The girl was cured of anemia and as expected, developed ovarian failure and therefore could not conceive naturally. When he wanted to have a child, he underwent another intervention to implant ovarian tissue It had been frozen 10 years before.

15 fragments were implanted and after four months ovarian activity began to be observed. Five months after the operation, the woman menstruated for the first time. More than two years after the transplant she became pregnant and in November 2014 she gave birth to her baby.

It is the happy ending of a story whose protagonist is the first child born thanks to long-term ovarian cortex cryopreservation (CCO) and a woman who fought to fulfill her dream of being a mother.
