'Skate board' and skates are ideal for fun ... but always for sure

Summer and spring are the best seasons for practicing sports on wheels, because the weather is more benign and it is not too lazy to spend hours outdoors.

And summer is also the time where there is more risk of childhood accidents, hence the safety advice is insisted. Today we will talk about a recurring theme, although not so much that we should forget about it: the helmet is also put on when the kids get on a skate or skate.

In addition to helmets there are other protectors especially suitable for beginners or when the practice is extreme: knee pads, elbow pads, wristbands, and even mouthguards.

But it is not enough to know that the head should be covered with a helmet: we must also adjust it well and know how to place it accurately

This indispensable protection element, must be level over the head, so that it does not swing backward, forward, or from side to side. And of course the straps must always be buckled, and this despite being obvious, does not always happen.

How to know if the case is well placed

  • Once in the head we look up and then we must be able to see the bottom edge that protrudes one or two large fingers over the eyebrows.

  • V-shaped straps will remain on the ears, tight but comfortable.

  • Once tied the ties, we will open our mouth and if we don't feel the hug of the case over the head, must be adjusted again. We will not forget that the buckle is flat on the skin.

Children should be insisted on safety measures, and we must also set an example (when we pedal or skate); because when they are older they will get on their skateboard without us being in front, so let's ensure that they have internalized the tips by then

Skating safely

When we talk about skateboarding, it is important remember that it is not suitable for children under five, although it really is not an entertainment that they would choose in lower ages. This is because the balance is not fully developed, which could mean a risk of major injuries.

Let's go now with the skates: these if we usually see them in children of three and four years, ages in which I personally find it premature to use them. If there is something important (in addition to the protections) it is that the skates should fit well in the children's foot.

On the other hand, it would be good use them (same as with bicycles), in areas reserved for it (parks, beaches, sports courts), because the smooth and dry surfaces that are located in illuminated places that are far from traffic are safer.
